Sections of a large Australian highway have been washed as the flood in Queensland is deteriorating.
The torrential precipitation to the north of the state has taken one life so far and forced thousands to escape from their homesWith communities in Townsville, Ingham and Cardwell in the midst of strong strokes.
“Recording” straits will continue to continue, authorities say, with parts of the region already experiencing more than 1.3 m (4.2 feet) rain from Saturday, causing dams and rivers to overflow.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese – who was informed of the response efforts on Monday – said the disaster had redeemed “the best of the Australians”.
“I have seen the Australians help each other in their time,” he wrote, adding that “the threat of water waters” will continue in the affected areas for days.
Efforts to obtain rescue teams in some of the most affected cities and cities have been difficult due to the collapse of parts of the Bruce Highway -a major piece of infrastructure connecting Brisbane to the regional centers of the country, which is longer than the road between London and Warsaw.
The Queensland Transport Association told ABC that the damage – which caused a bridge to cave – could add an additional 700 km (434 miles) to the keys driving routes, slowing down the delivery of critical deliveries.
Queensland Prime Minister David Chrisfuli offered his condolences to the “tightly braided” city of Ingham-where a 63-year-old woman died in an attempt to save after the public emergency service (SES) was saved on Sunday.
“We are sorry for their loss,” he told reporters, adding that he would travel to North Queensland later on Monday.
He also called on all the residents located in the so -called. The Black Zone of Floods – which includes six suburbs of Towns – not to return home because of the continued threat represented by the nearby Ross River.
The Australian Bureau of Meteorology said the area received six months of rain for three days, while the local Town Disaster Group warned that 2000 homes could be flooded, some to the second floor as water levels are rising.
Sustainable flow – which is gradually relieved according to the time reports – there are swollen waterways throughout the region. The main flood warnings remain for communities along the Hebert, Ross, Boch, Horton and Gorna Burdekin rivers.
Emergency responses continue to work around the clock, with SES receiving 480 calls to help overnight on Sunday on Monday and performs 11 rescue water. The broad interruptions of the power supply continue to be reported, which makes it impossible for some communities to call for help.
SES Deputy Commissioner Shane Celepi urged people to stay vigilant and check their neighbors whenever possible. He added that about 400 people are housed in evacuation centers in Townsville, Ingham and Cardwell.
Located in the tropics, North Queensland is vulnerable to destructive cyclones, storms and floods.
But climate scientists have warned that more warming oceans and a hot planet create conditions for more intensive and frequent extreme rainfall events.
Meteorologists say current floods may be the highest to strike in the region in more than 60 years.
