The heavy floods in Queensland have forced thousands of people to evacuate, to cut off the power of the homes and to wash sections of a vital highway.

In Townsville, one of the most affected cities in the region, people are preparing for further flooding.

When the rain relaxed on Monday night, BBC reporter Simon Atkinson joined the locals, examining the damage so far.
