ReutersIndian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the United States next week and meet with President Donald Trump, the White House says.
Other reports say Modi will attend a dinner organized by the US president on a two -day trip. The dates of the official working visit have not yet been announced.
Modi will be among the first foreign leaders to meet Trump in the White House during their second term. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is currently in Washington, and Japan Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba is coming this week.
Modi and Trump shared a warm relationship during the first term of the US President. Last week they kept A “productive” telephone conversation and discussed illegal immigration, security and commercial ties, the White House said.
Analysts say it will be interesting to see if the bonchomy between the two men will help to overcome concerns about trade and immigration.
Trump called Modi a “great leader” last year, but also accused India of charging excessive tariffs.
Confirming the visit of the Indian leader in Washington came shortly after the United States Military flights deporting about 100 Indian citizens landed in Punjab.
It is alleged that everyone on board either illegally entered the United States or overdone their visas.
During last week’s call, Trump said he was sure that India would “do the right” when it comes to illegal immigration.
He has made the mass deportation of undocumented foreign citizens a key policy. Early Bloomberg reported that 18,000 undocumented Indian migrants living illegally in the United States have been identified so far, but the real number is likely to be higher.
According to the PEW survey Center in the United States, there were 725,000 stray -docked Indian immigrants in the United States.
Until now, India has escaped the threat of tariffs to export to the United States.
In the past, however, Trump called India the “tariff king” and a “big abuser” of trade and threatened reciprocal action if Delhi did not reduce taxes on US imports.
The last budget in India has been observed obligations reduced on a number of goods, including high -end motorcycles such as the emblematic Harley Davidson.
India’s finance secretary told the local media that this was a sign that the country was not the “king of the tariff”.
Last week, the Indian Foreign Ministry said the two countries are working to deepen their bilateral relations.
Foreign Minister Jaishankar presented India at the Trump Opening Ceremony and had conversations with his American counterpart Marco Rubio while in Washington.
In November, following the victory of Trump’s election, Jaisankar said the country was not upset with the US president.
