China has accused the United States of making “unfounded and false allegations” about his role in fentanyl trade to justify the tariffs for Chinese products.

The complaint was lodged with the World Trade Organization (One hundred) one day after US President Donald Trump raised border taxes on Chinese goods by 10%, a measure he said was intended to deal with the influx of illegal drugs.

In the submission, China said the measures were “discriminatory and protectionist” and violated the rules of world trade.

The dispute comes as Trump’s plans for tariffs – a tax he said he wants to see all foreign shipments in the country – cause uncertainty throughout the world’s commercial landscape.

Trump said tariffs would encourage companies to make their products in the United States, expressing repeated concern about the amount of trade deficits.

But his actions against China – which he threatened to expand in other countries, including Canada, Mexico and Europe – have sparked concerns about their impact on the economy, including the US, as businesses respond to trade uncertainty by retaining investment or investment They are moving to new costs for customers.

US imports hit its highest recording in December as businesses reacted to tariff threats, competing to provide foreign toys, mobile phones and computers.

The value of the goods brought to the United States has jumped 4% from November to $ 293.1 billion, the highest since the start of the recording in 1992, the trade department said on Wednesday.

The rise also contributed to the widest trade deficit or gap between exports and imports for nearly two years.

Tariffs also sparked political tensions, including revenge from China, which responded to Trump’s transition to the US goods rates and Google antitrust, among other measures.

The speed with which China filed its complaint in WTO is an indication of Beijing’s readiness for trade.

On Wednesday, Bloomberg also announced that the country’s antitrust regulator is preparing for a possible investigation of Apple’s policies and fees, hitting the company’s shares.

Trump’s moves – which included an order of duty -free parcel treatment for less than $ 800 – will be a major “shock” for some companies, such as Shay and the Temu, as they destroy the opportunity to offer ultra -low prices, Mark Williams said , chief Chinese economist at Capital Economics.

But he said he considered China as a whole that the effects of Trump’s tariffs would not be too harmful.

“For the wider Chinese economy, this is definitely manageable,” he said.

WTO procedures give the United States and China for 60 days to resolve their dispute through consultation, at which point China has the right to claim a judgment.

But it is not clear how effective the medicine will be.

The final staff of a hundred, which regulates commercial disputes, remains unable to function, as the US refuses to approve the appointment of new judges in the body.

The United States also ignored a previous one to find a hundred that greater steel and aluminum rates imposed during Trump’s first term are against the rules.

China is ranked as a district with the largest deficit of goods in December, sending $ 25.3 billion more in the United States than purchased.

The European Union, a target of Trump’s tariff threats, had the second largest precipice.

In contrast, the US enjoyed a small surplus of $ 2.3 billion to trade in goods with the United Kingdom.

Overall, trade deficits in the US, including services, increased by 17% last year to a total of $ 918.4 billion, as import increases more than exports.

In December, the trade deficit of goods and services was $ 98.4 billion, the highest since March 2022, the trade department said.
