US authorities are looking for a small plane carrying 10 people, which has been reported to have disappeared in Alaska.

The US Coast Guard for the Alaska region said Cessna’s craft was 12 miles (19 km) on the bank of a flight from Unalakley to Nome when “his position is lost.”

The two cities are about 146 miles apart through the sound of Norton, the entrance to the Bering sea on the west coast of Alaska.

Search and Rescue crews are working to reach the latest known flight coordinates, a state officials said in a statement from civil servants.

They said they were notified of a “overdue” aircraft operated by Bering Air at 16:00 local time on Thursday (01:00 GMT).

The 10 people on board consist of nine passengers and a pilot, the Alaska Ministry of Public Safety Ministry announced. There was no immediately available information about who was on board.

BBC contacted Bering Air for comment.

The volunteer fire service in the city city Nome said the pilot told the air traffic controllers that “he intends to enter a model of holding while waiting for the track to be cleared.”
