US President Donald Trump hosts Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the White House for trade talks.

Modi’s two-day visit is coming as Trump ordered US trading partners to face reciprocal tariffs on Tit-Tat imports to match the similar obligations that have already been charged by these countries of US exports.

Immigration was high on the agenda, with Trump expecting to ask India to take thousands of undocumented immigrants.

Writing earlier to X, Modi said he also discussed the space, technology and innovation of a meeting with Trump Elon Musk ally.

Trump and Modi have developed personal rapprochement over the years, despite the friction over commerce.

“We had a wonderful relationship,” Trump said as he welcomed his visitor to Washington on Thursday.

Modi said, “I firmly believe with Trump that we will work twice the speed we made in his first term.”

“They will buy a lot of our oil and gas,” Trump added. “They need. And we have it.”

Shortly before their bilateral Trump ordered his advisers to calculate broad new tariffs for US trading partners around the world, warning that they could begin to enter into force by April 1.

At a press conference in the Oval Cabinet, the President told reporters that “our allies are worse than our enemies” when it comes to import taxes.

“We had a very unjust system for us,” the Republican president said before meeting Modi. “Everyone took advantage of the United States.”

The White House also issued a news message that launched a trade shot through the bows of India and other countries.

The document notes that the US average tariff for agricultural goods is 5% for countries where Washington has provided the status of the most favorable nation (MFN).

“But the average MFN tariff in India is 39%,” said the White House Fact Leaf.

“India also charges 100% tariff for US motorcycles, while we are only charging 2.4% Tariff for Indian motorcycles.”

On Thursday, Trump acknowledged the risks of his tariff policy as economists warned that such import taxes could increase consumer prices.

“Prices can rise somewhat, short -term, but prices will also fall,” he said in the oval office.

But he claims that politics will strengthen US production and the country will be “flooded with jobs”.

Trump has already set up an additional 10% import tariff from China, citing fentanyl production, a deadly opioid that has laid an epidemic of US overdose.

He also prepared tariffs for Canada and Mexico, the two largest trading partners in America that could come into force in March after being stopped for 30 days.

On Monday, he eliminated the exceptions to his steel and aluminum rates for 2018.
