BBC News, White House
The White House plans to determine which news publications have access to President Donald Trump by taking control of the Journalists Association after more than a century.
The changes announced by the press secretary Carolyn Levitt on Tuesday mean that the White House will determine which retail outlets are participating in Pula, which covers presidential events and shares materials with other media.
The rotation of pool reporters is earlier by the White House Corresponding Association (WHCA), which said the decision “Tears in Independence of the Free Press”.
The surprise message comes when the Associated Press fights to restore its access to presidential events after it was blocked.
“The White House press team in this administration will determine who will enjoy many privileges and limited access in spaces such as the Air Force and the Oval Office,” Levitite said at a briefing for news on Tuesday.
She said the changes will allow “new media” retail outlets – including streaming services and podcasts – to “share this great responsibility”.
“The inherited media, which have been here for years, will still participate in the pool, but new votes will be welcomed,” she said.
“(H) Deciding which retail outlets make up the pool with a limited press daily, the White House will restore power back to the American people,” Levit added.
Founded in 1914, the WHCA has historically coped with some logistics around the President’s daily reflection, mainly a “pool” of reporters, which includes a crew of cameras from one of the five main US networks, a radio correspondent and a rotating group of Printed objects.
Whca has long claimed that the pool is beneficial for both the president – who is able to quickly distribute news – as well as for the wider media who receive pool reports, photos, video and audio.
The pool reporters are on duty every day – including weekends and holidays – both in the White House and when the president travels.
BBC News is one of the retail outlets that participate in the radio station.
Ghetto imagesWhca expressed concern that this move would benefit the White House by providing access to news editions that he sees as a nice or friendly.
“This move does not restore the power to people – it gives power to the White House,” writes Fox News reporter Jacqui Heinrich, a member of the WHCA board, writes X.
In his own statement, the WhCA said the decision “suggests that the government will choose the journalists who cover the president.”
The WHCA said it had not been notified of the White House decision before the news briefing on Tuesday.
Levitt, meanwhile, said the WhCA would no longer have a “monopoly” on pool control.
President Trump was asked about the message in the Oval Cabinet later on Tuesday. “We’ll call these shots,” he told the changes.
Earlier this week, US Judge Denial Request from the Associated Press For an immediate restoration of its access to presidential events, after the Trump administration blocked the agency in a dispute over the Bay of America.
The News Agency declined to change its style from the Gulf of Mexico to the Persian Gulf after President Trump renamed him with an enforcement order.
The AP claims that the ban is retributed and violates the rights to the first amendment to freedom of expression and the press.
The prohibition meant that the AP – which hundreds of news news relying – is unable to gain access to press events along with the rest of the White House pool as well as Air Force One.
Hearing is scheduled for March 20.
