BBC Some Dumor Award 2025 launches

The BBC is looking for a rising star of African journalism for the BBC News Komla Dumor Award, which is now 10 years old.

Journalists from all over Africa are invited to apply for the award, which aims to reveal and promote fresh talents from the continent.

The winner will spend three months at the BBC headquarters in London, gaining skills and experience.

Applications close on March 20, 2025 at 23:59 GMT.

The award distinguishes the legacy of Comla Dumor, an excellent Ghanai television operator and former BBC World News presenter, who died suddenly at the age of 41 a decade ago.

Dumor’s widow, Qunsema Dumor, said she was “proud” by her husband’s impact at the BBC, and also said that her family was “thankful to the BBC for remembering it” through the award.

In addition to receiving training, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to travel to a country in Africa to report on the history they have examined, with the report broadcast before the BBC global audience.

The BBC is committed to continuing its inheritance through the award, mastering Africa journalists to tell the original and nuanced African stories of the international audience.

Dumor was the presenter of Focus on Africa, the first of its kind, dedicated daily BBC television program in English for the African audience. It was broadcast on BBC World News, which is now merged with BBC News Channel to create a single 24-hour television news.

He was also one of the leading leading BBC World News for the European morning segment.

He joined the BBC in 2007 after a decade of broadcast journalism in his native Ghana, where he won the Journalist of the Year Award in Ghana.
