The Catholics gathered to pray for the health of the pope under the steps of St. Peter’s Basilica for the third evening, as his doctors said his condition showed an additional slight improvement.

Nuns, hanging beads, tourists and student priests, were among those who joined the gentle spell of the rosary in the Vatican.

They were led by a cardinal in an Alena cherry hat that prayed that Pope Francis could resume his duties as soon as possible.

Night gatherings began on Monday after the health of an 88-year-old youth made a dramatic immersion over the weekend. He was struggling to breathe and needed blood transfusion.

But recent statements suggest that the Pope is able to sit in his chair, eat normally and even do what the Vatican calls “light work”: reading and signing documents.

“It was a little scary last weekend, but now a little better,” Stacey, a medical student from Paris, told the BBC.

She was present at the Pope’s prayers for the second time.

“Francis is very popular with young people, because he is really open and in a world that has become a little scary, he gives us a lot of hope.”

The Panama Siomara said he felt more specially attracted to this pope as he was a “good man”.

“Prayers always help, they not just hang in the air,” she believes.

The leading rosary under the white canopy was Cardinal Batista Re.

He is the figure in the Vatican, which he would call a conclave – the closed gathering of a higher clergy that Pope chooses – if Francis failed to continue in the role.

Despite the slight improvement, the Pope’s medical team still does not predict.

He was admitted to Gemeli Hospital on February 14 with double pneumonia and, according to the Vatican, the lungs of the lungs shows “normal evolution”, suggesting that it responds to treatment.

We are told that he still uses extra oxygen but has not undergone more “respiratory crises”.

The tone of the Vatican officials certainly relaxed a little.

On Tuesday, the Pope’s condition was described as “stable”, which was new. By Wednesday night, there was “a slighter slight improvement” and the update failed to say “critical” for the first time.

Vatican officials have warned that it does not mean that the Pope is out of the forest.

But with so little to continue, those who follow his condition closely, they pull out every word – or a missing word – for meaning.

Inevitably many are also wondering about the future.

The pope was fragile before this infection, so there is speculation that he can resign.

The Couridiano Nazionale newspaper calls it “fluttering of crows” over St. Peter, inevitably at the “sunset” of every papacy.

This time it’s even stronger since Benedict XVI set a precedent and retired in 2013, the first pope to do this in six centuries.

Francis said before that he would consider resigning if he could not fulfill his duties.

“His instinct will be to last as long as he can and is able,” Austin Ivery, who co -authored a book with Pope Francis, believes.

“He has shown that he doesn’t mind being weak and fragile pope; he can be a pope in a wheelchair or the one who gets sick regularly and that’s good.”

However, if his health forecast was too bad, the author said, “Then the question (resignation) may arise.”

Even with Francis, limited to the hospital in Gemeli, well -oiled Vatican teeth continue to turn. The bureaucracy operates and the Pope sign some documents.

On Monday, they visited his Secretary of State and another senior official.

Officially, the Pope signed documents, moving a list of candidates further on the path to the sacred.

But some question why they could not wait, given the pope’s vulnerability and wonder what other plans were discussed at this meeting.

As Francis enters their 14th day to the hospital, worshipers in Rome are already experiencing life without him. His weekly audience or meeting with the faithful was canceled for a second week.

“We really want him to improve and continue the incredible work that has started,” Mabi said.

She mentions the foreground of women in the church in particular.

“He is a People’s Pope and people want his work to continue.”

“We are sorry because today we hoped to meet the Pope of the audience – we had tickets,” said Father Cristiano.

Almost 100 Catholics from northern Italy gathered to start processing the street to St. Peter behind a large wooden crucifix.

“I’m not disappointed. I’m just worried about him,” the priest said. “The news is not so bad today, but it’s not so good. So we have to pray.”
