ReutersPope Francis, who has been fighting pneumonia for two weeks, shows signs of improvement, Vatican said in a medical update.
He will remain in hospital due to a complex clinical picture, Vatican said on Friday morning.
This added that the 88-year-old had another “peaceful night” and “now rests” at Gemeli’s hospital in Rome.
The Italian news agency ANSA has announced that the pontiff is already outside the “critical phase”, citing sources of the Vatican.
The Pope was admitted to hospital on February 14th after having difficulty breathing for several days.
For the first time, he was treated for bronchitis before being diagnosed with pneumonia in both lungs.
Then February 22The Vatican said the Pope had survived a respiratory crisis and was in a “critical” condition, but later on Sunday released an update that “did not present additional respiratory crises.”
The next day the pope issued a statement asking Catholics to pray for him after He failed to personally convey the traditional Angelus prayer for a second weekS
But while the Vatican said the Pope’s health was improving, he added that “other days of clinical stability are needed to resolve the prognosis.”
Pontiphic is particularly susceptible to pneumonia, lung infection, which can be caused by bacteria, viruses or fungi, after it has become infected with pleurisy – inflammation of the lungs – as a young person and there was partial removal of the lungs.
The leader of the Roman Catholic Church was admitted to a hospital repeatedly during his 12-year term, including being treated for bronchitis at the same hospital in March 2023.
From Argentina, Pope Francis is the first Latin American and first Jesuit to lead the Roman Catholic Church.
