US President Donald Trump said he found him “more difficult, honestly, to deal with Ukraine” from Russia in attempts to mediate peace between the two countries.
The United States is “doing very well with Russia” and “it may be easier to deal with” Moscow from Kiev, Trump told reporters in the oval office on Friday.
Hours earlier, Trump said that he was “considering” large-scale sanctions and tariffs for Russia, until the fire with Ukraine is resulted in.
Meanwhile, the United States has temporarily suspended Ukraine’s access to some satellite images, Maxar space technology said to the BBC after Trump had already stopped military assistance to the country.
Comes exactly one week after an unusual White House exchangeIn which Trump sought Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski for being “disrespectful” to the United States.
This public dress was followed this week by Trump stopped all US military assistance and Separation of Intelligence with KyivS
Then Russia held a large -scale rocket and drone attack against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure on Thursday night.
Trump threat of additional sanctions The already highly sanctioned Russia was obviously in response to this attack. He said he was considering new tariffs as “Russia is currently pouring” Ukraine on the battlefield.
But within hours, Trump said Russian President Vladimir Putin acts like someone else.
“I think he hits them (Ukraine) more strongly than he hits them,” Trump said. “And I think someone in this position would probably do it right now.”
He added that he believed that Putin wanted to end the war, but he couldn’t say the same about Ukraine.
“I want to know that they (Ukraine) want to settle down and I don’t know they want to settle,” Trump said when he asked him why he cut Kiev’s help.
Trump’s direct diplomacy with Putin stunned NATO allies as the West had deviated from contacts with Moscow after the full -scale invasion of Ukraine in Russia.
Despite Trump’s dispute with Zelenski, the tone of his external political team in the last two days sounded more primitive to Ukraine after his hand prompted his hand in the form of a cut of military and intelligence support.
Americans want Zelenski to sign a deal to give them a large share in Ukrainian minerals, and he agrees to a quick truce with Moscow.
Zelenski insists that KYIV security guarantees be agreed as part of the transaction. Speaking on Friday, Trump said such a security guarantee could be discussed later and would be the “easy part”.
Meanwhile, Space Technology Maxar told BBC Verify on Friday that the United States has temporarily downloaded Ukrainian access to some high quality images from US satellites.
Satellite images are an important tool during war as it allows armies to collect intelligence for their rivals.
Maxar, based in the US company, has contracts to provide satellite images to various governments and companies.
One is the Global Enhanced Geoint Deliver (GEGD) program, which gives users access to high quality images gathered by the US government.
“The US government has decided to temporarily stop Ukrainian accounts in GEGD,” Maxar told the BBC. “Each client makes his own decisions on how he uses and shares this information.”
The National Agency for Geopper Intelligence, part of the US Department of Defense, has confirmed that the suspension is “in accordance with the Directive of the Administration for the Support of Ukraine”.
Next week, Trump senior officials will travel to Saudi Arabia to meet with Zelenski team against the backdrop of increasing pressure for him to register with Trump’s requests.
The President of Ukraine has said he hopes the conversations will be “meaningful”S On Friday, he said his country was “ready for peace as soon as possible” and offered “specific steps” to achieve it.
“Every day, the new Russian strikes and the reality itself prove that Russia must be forced to peace,” he added.
Zelenski expressed regret in the days, as his public encounter with Trump and works to repair relations with the United States.
On Thursday, the US Special Envoy Steve Vikof said Trump had received a letter from Zelenski, which included “apology” and a “sense of gratitude”.
“Let’s hope we will bring things back on the way with the Ukrainians and everything is resumed,” Vitkof said.
The UK staff said about 20 countries are interested in joining a “Coalition of desire” to help UkraineAs European leaders ahead with plans for much more military expenses.
