Israel ordered the supply of gas electricity to be interrupted on Sunday in an attempt to put pressure on Hamas to release the other Israeli hostages held on the territory.
Energy Minister Eli Cohen’s announcement came a week after Israel interrupted all supplies for help in the territory with a population of more than two million people.
In a video statement on Sunday, Cohen said, “We will use all the tools we have to return the hostages and to ensure that Hamas is no longer in gas the day after (the war).”
The solution to reduce electricity is expected to affect mainly the operation of desalination installations, which are crucial to providing clean drinking water.
The government said it had not excluded the cut of water supply.
In his statement, Cohen said, “I just signed the order to stop delivering electricity to the Gaza tape immediately.”
Israel cut the greater part of the electricity supply of gas electricity earlier in the war.
Talk about extending brittleThe first phase of which ended on March 1st is expected to resume in Qatar on Monday.
Israel wants Hamas to accept an extension of the first phase of ending his fire.
But Hamas wants to start negotiations for the second phase of the termination of fire, which will see the release of the other hostages from the gas, the withdrawal of the Israeli forces and the constant end of the war.
Hamas is thought to hold 24 living hostages, as well as the bodies of 35 others.
The belligerent group – which warned that the cut of gas supplies would also influence the hostages – said on Sunday that it had completed the last round of negotiations to end the fire with the Egyptian intermediaries without changes in its position and called for the immediate beginning of the second phase of the termination of the fire.
The coastal territory of gas and its infrastructure are largely devastated by the war, and generators and solar panels are used for some of the power supply.
Israel is facing criticism of cutting gas supplies.
“Any refusal to enter the need for civilian life can be a collective punishment,” the United Nations Organization Rights Service on Friday said on Friday.
Hamas has repeated his support for a proposal to set up an independent technocrats committee to run Gaza while the Palestinians hold presidential and legislative elections.
This committee will work under the umbrella of Palestinian power (PA), which is based on the occupied West Bank.
Israel rejected the BCP, which plays any role in Gaza but did not present an alternative to post -war governance.
The Hamas attack in October 2023 died about 1,200 people, mostly civilians, inside Israel and saw 251 people taken hostage. Most are released in fire termination agreements or other arrangements.
Israel’s military offensive killed over 48,000 Palestinians in Gaza, mainly women and children, according to the health ministry, run by Hamas, which does not say how many of the dead were fighters.
