The United States is throwing a South African ambassador to Washington, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio saying “is no longer welcome in our great country.”
In a publication by X, Rubio accused Ambassador Ebrahim Rasol of the hatred of America and President Donald Trump.
He described him as a “race for a race”, adding “we have nothing to discuss with him.”
The rare stroke marks the latest development of the increasing tension between the two sides.
The BBC contacted the Embassy of South Africa in Washington for comment.
In his post on Friday, Rubio contacted an article from the right output Breitbart, which cited some of the latest Rasool’s remarks made during an online lecture on the Trump administration.
“What started Donald Trump is an attack on activity, those who are in power, by mobilizing the rule against activity, at home … and abroad,” Rasol said.
He added that the Maga movement is a response to “very clear data showing major demographic changes in the United States, in which the vote electorate is expected to become 48 percent white.”
In response, Rubio called Rasool “Persona Non Grata”, mentioning the Latin phrase of “unwanted face”.
The post of Rubio came when he diverted Canada from a meeting with foreign ministers.
Relationships between the US and South Africa have deteriorated since Trump took office.
The US President has signed an executive order last month, which freezes the help of South Africa. The order refers to “outrageous actions” from South Africa and cites an “unfair racial discrimination” against white Africans – those who have descended from the Dutch settlers.
The order also refers to a new law, the alienation law that the order claims is directed to the African, allowing the government to seize private land.
“While South Africa continues to support the bad participants on the world stage and allows violent attacks on innocent unscrupulous minority farmers, the US will stop the country’s help and assistance,” the White House said.
The South Africa government denies that its law is related to race, the Associated Press reports.
A sheet of facts from the White House states that the country “grossly discriminates ethnic minorities descendants of the settlers groups.”
While lower-end diplomats are sometimes expelled, in the US it is extremely unusual to happen to a higher employee as a foreign ambassador, the Associated Press reports, noting that neither the United States nor Russia has taken such actions against each other, even against the background of tensions during the Cold War.
Previously, Rasool was an ambassador to the United States from 2010 to 2015, before being eavesdropped on the post in 2025.
He was born and raised in Cape Town. When he was nine, he and his family were forcibly removed from an apartment, which was only declared white people. With his aging, he became more interested in politics and said that expulsion was an important point in his upbringing, which leads his future.
