37-year-old Monica Stot says so-called “extreme day trips” are a great way to experience holidays around family, work, pets and plants

For most people, the idea of resting abroad involves packing a suitcase and being far away for a weekend, if not a week or more.

But for Monica hundred, one day is enough to fly to another country, to look at and return home before going to bed.

The 37-year-old from Wrexham is glad to participate in holidays that have become known online as extreme day trips-and have visited Milan, Bergamo, Lisbon, Amsterdam and even Reykjavik for one day.

“I think people are always surprised that you really feel you had a break,” Monica said.

Monica, who is a full -time journey blogger, said the idea of an extreme trip for the first time happened to her while traveling for work.

“My first few extreme trips during the day were to Ireland when I had clients there,” she explained.

“Quite often I appeared for a two-hour meeting and went home. Then I realized that I could stay (a little longer) and do all day.”

Then Monica found a number of Facebook groups where people shared their own experience from extreme day trips and was inspired to start booking her in her spare time.

Monica Stot has accepted the so -called “extreme day trips”

“There are studies that suggest that most of your best festive memories have been made in the first one or two days. When I thought, I agreed. Many of the best times happen when you first arrive.

“You arrive on time for breakfast, squeeze as much as possible, and then fly home at night. It’s an intense, busy, crazy day.”

While Monica enjoys the busy days in one place, Luke Chetuomi-Gosh, an 18-year-old Cardiff student, did even more.

“It started on Christmas Eve when I found a return flight to the threshold for less than 15 pounds. I immediately booked it, but then I realized that the flight landed in Prague at 21:00 and returned to the UK at 09:00,” Luka said.

“So, I thought I could be treated as if it were during the day, sleeping during the day and walking around the city at night.”

Luke said he realized that he only needed six hours to explore a city.

A few weeks later, when on vacation in Paris, he decided to see how many neighboring countries he could travel by a day by train.

“I went to Luxembourg, Brussels and Amsterdam and returned to Paris within the same day,” he said.

Luke’s logic, he said, was that he would probably spend so much time traveling if he was on a day trip to the UK.

Monica says “every place is different” but always trying to fit into the most unique experiences as possible

Facebook groups, where people share their experience in taking extreme trips, have acquired hundreds of thousands of members, some of which are specifically focused on regional airports in the UK.

Monica and Luke said their trips were effective, favorable to the budget and helped to destroy their routine procedures without needing a week from home.

“People always say they would like to visit places like Paris or Rome, but they have no time or money for a long trip. This is a way for it,” Monica said.

For onions, this is also a practical choice.

“I look at how much I spend on a student evening, sometimes up to £ 60 or £ 70. If I can get a flight back for less than £ 20 and instead live a whole new city, why not?”

Luke says there are so many places in Europe that are “easily accessible”

Despite the enthusiasm of Monika and Luka, extreme one -day trips have caused criticism of their environmental impact.

Flying is responsible for 2.4% of global greenhouse gas emissions and 8% of the UK emissions.

These gases heat the atmosphere, contributing to global warming and climate change.

Both Monica and Luke recognize this question.

“I think if that means that people are taking more flights and airlines run more flights, then I see this as a negative impact,” Monica said.

“But many people who make extreme trips during the day do it because they either cannot afford to make a longer rest or have no time.

“I do not think it is fair to say that one person’s holiday is more important than another person’s holiday, because they last longer.”

Luke claims that flights often continue independently.

“The seat will be filled with someone,” he said.

“Moreover, if another form of transport could be used, it would be a good idea. For example, when traveling with three cities built, I did not take a single flight.”

Both also said that extreme day trips were attractive due to the high cost of public transport in the United Kingdom.

Monica says that the most important beat of the extreme one -day trip is to stay calm

Monica said her trips require careful planning.

“I try to choose destinations that are less than a two-hour flight. Once you enter over two hours, it’s just such a long day of travel.”

She also said she had tried to stay calm at the airport to avoid unnecessary stress.

“Many people are excited or worried at the airport and this can be exhausting,” she said.

“If you just treat it like a train or a bus, you don’t use all your energy with this anxiety before the holiday.”
