Four people, including Emil Soleil’s grandparents, were arrested for the disappearance and death of two years in the French Alps in July 2023.

The two other people arrested on suspicion of voluntary murder and corpse hiding are elderly children of Emil’s grandparents, prosecutors said.

Grandmother’s lawyer Isabel Columbani told AFP on Tuesday morning that there was no comment, such as “just as she just heard” about development.

Last year, some of the young child’s bones and clothing were found by a tourist near the grandmother’s home of Emil’s mother in the French Alps, where the boy had disappeared the previous summer.

But prosecutors at the time said the remains did not offer additional clues about the cause of Emil’s death, adding that this may be the result of a “fall, murder or murder.”

Tuesday on Tuesday, in a case that seemed to have cooled, made titles in France, where Emil’s search was widely covered by the media. When the young child disappeared, dozens of journalists flocked to Haut-Vernet, often superior to the 25 inhabitants of the tiny alpine neighborhood.

Emil’s last observation was on July 8, 2023, when two neighbors saw him walk alone on the only street in the village.

Police were signaled by his grandmother shortly after. The next day, hundreds of people joined the police, Sniffer’s dogs and the military in a search.

Initially, the French reports focused on Emil’s grandfather – but the lawyer told him that he hoped investigators would not “waste too much time for him to the detriment of other lines of investigation.”

Emil’s remains were found days after police called 17 people – including Emil family members, neighbors and witnesses – to reconstruct the last moments before the boy disappeared.

The funeral of the young child took place in February this year. Shortly thereafter, his maternal grandparents said that “silence has made room for truth” and that they can no longer “live without answers.”

“We had 19 months without a single security. We have to understand, we have to know,” they said.

In a statement, Attorney General of the AIX-EN Provence Jean-Luc Blanchan said that the arrests on Tuesday are the result of investigations conducted in recent months and that police were investigating “several spots in the area”.

French media reported on Tuesday that the home of grandparents in the Provence region were searched and that police had conquered one of their vehicles.

In France, people can be arrested for questioning as police investigate whether they may have been involved in a crime. This does not mean that court proceedings will necessarily be launched against them.
