SuppliedSix people were killed after a tourist submarine sank into the Red Sea off the coast of Egypt, a local governor said.
Among the 39 others who were rescued, nine is said to have been wounded by four in critical condition after the incident early on Thursday near the city of Hergada.
In total, it was believed that 45 passengers were aboard a submarine called Sinbad when it sank near the harbor.
Here’s what we know so far.
Red Sea Governor Amr Hanafi said six tourists were killed and another 39 people were rescued after the submarine sank. There are no people who are not missing and it is not known how many of those on board were tourists and how many crew were.
A Russian employee in Hergada Viktor Voropaev said two of the killed were children.
This came after a more statement from the Russian Embassy in Egypt, which said all tourists on board were Russian.
Sinbad submarine has been working as a tourist submarine for several years.
According to the company that runs tourist trips – Sinbad’s submarines – its ships are taking travelers on trips to explore coral reefs near the shoreline of Hergada.
The company claims that it owns two of the only “14 real recreation submarines” in the world that contain 44 seats for passengers and two places for pilots.
The tours are designed for both adults and children, the company’s website said and allow passengers to travel 25 meters (82 feet) under water.
The submarine sank off the coast of the Egyptian Red Sea, the city of Hergada, of course.
The incident is believed to have occurred in the port. The Russian Embassy said it happened around 10:00 local time (08:00 GMT), about 0.6 miles (1 km) from the shore.
Hurghada is a popular tourist destination, with its coastline known for its beaches and coral reefs. A number of tourist travel companies work from their port.
In recent years, there have been other incidents involving tourist boats in the Red Sea working outside the city.
In November, a tourist boat called the Sea Story sank, leaving 11 dead or disappeared – including a British couple – and 35 survivors. Later BBC heard Board safety failures.
Investigators in the UK have stated last month In the last five years, there have been 16 incidents involving Liveboard in the area, with a number of death.

Authorities in Egypt are investigating the cause of the incident and is currently unclear.
There is still a lot of activity from other boats around the port near where the submarine sinks.
The weather seems to have been quite calm, with no signs of rough waters.
