The stands were paid to a scientist based in London, who had previously worked for the Royal Society of Biology (RSB) after being found killed in North Colombia.

Alessandro Coat’s remains were found on the outskirts of Santa Martha, a port city on the Caribbean coast, on Sunday, investigators say.

Mayor of Santa Martha, Carlos Pinedo Quelo, said a prize of 50,000,000 Colombian peso (8,940 British pounds) was offered for information leading to the capture of those responsible for the death of the Italian citizen.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, RSB said it was “devastated” by the news about the murder of G -N Coaths.

“He was a passionate and dedicated scientist leading RSB scientific work on animals, wrote numerous opinions, organized events and gave evidence in the House of Commons,” RSB said.

“But she was fun, warm, intelligent, loved by all with whom he worked and would be deeply missed by all who knew and worked with him.

“Our thoughts and the best wishes come out to his friends and family at this really terrible moment.”

Santa Martha is a portal to some of the most popular tourist destinations in Colombia, including Tyrona National Park, Minka and Mount Sierra Nevada de Santa Martha.

G -N Coaths, who took a master’s degree at the University College London (UCL), has worked for RSB for eight years as a scientific policy officer before being promoted to a senior scientific policy officer.

He left the RSB in late 2024 to voluntarily participate in Ecuador and travel to South America.

Parts of the dismembered body of the scientist were found in a suitcase thrown into a stream.

Posting the X, the Pinedo Cuello said, “This crime will not go unpunished. Criminals should know that the crime has no place in Santa Martha. We will pursue them until they are brought to court.”

A worker of a hotel who was talking to the Colombian newspaper El Tiempo said that he was interested in a visit to the village of Mika and conducted research on local animal species.
