Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski says at least 155 Chinese citizens are fighting for Russia in the war.
His comments come after two Chinese fighters were captured earlier this week – noting Kiev’s first official claim that China was delivering Russia with labor.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Zelenski reiterated his claim that there are “many more” Chinese citizens engaged in the conflict based on information gathered by his government.
Earlier, China denied many of its citizens fighting for Russia, saying that the claim was not “at its core in facts. Beijing has not yet responded to the last figure of Zelenski.
On Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said They still “check the appropriate situation with Ukraine” and appear to suggest that Chinese soldiers are working in private capacity.
“Let me emphasize that the Chinese government always asks Chinese citizens to stay away from areas of armed conflict, to avoid any form of participation in armed conflict, and more special to avoid participation in military operations of any party,” said Lynn Jian.
He also called on Ukraine to “correctly examine China’s efforts and constructive role in the political settlement of the crisis in Ukraine.”
Hours later, Zelenski doubled his allegations, saying that “the Chinese question is serious.”
“There are 155 people with family names, with passport data – 155 Chinese citizens fighting Ukrainians on the territory of Ukraine,” he said, according to Remarks reported by Interfax.
He added that Russia is recruiting Chinese citizens on social media and that “official Beijing knows about it.”
According to Zelenski, alleged recruits receive training in Moscow before being sent to the battlefield in Ukraine, as well as migration documents and payment.
Earlier this week, he said his forces were fighting six Chinese soldiers in the Ukraine area in East Donetsk and took two prisoners. Russia refused to comment on this revelation.
The Ukrainian leader said that “Russia’s participation in China, along with other countries, whether directly or indirectly, in this war in Europe is a clear signal that Putin intends to do anything but to end the war.”
The United States called the “disturbing” reports.
In the past, Ukraine questioned China’s declared neutral position. Gaundeski is argued that Beijing supplies “elements that are part of Russia’s weapon” and calls on the country to maintain a “consistent” position.
China has been accused of the United States of helping Russia make more ammunition, armored vehicles and rockets. It has also been considered to allow dual -use technology, which can be used in both commercial and military – such as computer chips and drones – to be exported to Russia.
While Beijing and Moscow are close political and economic allies, China has tried to present itself as a neutral party in the conflict and has repeatedly denied supplying military equipment to Russia.
He defends his trade with Moscow, saying that he does not sell deadly weapons and “carefully cope with the export of dual -use objects in accordance with the laws and regulations.”
The allegations of Chinese soldiers fighting for Russia follow the capture of Ukraine on two wounded North Korean soldiers In Russia, the Kursk region.
