Several prisons in France have been affected by a wave of attacks overnight, the Minister of Justice said.
Gerald Darman said prisons face “intimidation attempts” ranging from burning vehicles to automatic fire fire.
La Parisien reports that vehicles have been set on fire in several prison car parks while a prison in Toulon was targeting rifles of automatic weapons.
The newspaper lists six establishments as directed: in Toulon, Ex-En Provence and Marseille, Valence and Nims, Luins, Willepinte and Nanterre.
In a post of X Darman, he said he was traveling to Toulon to offer his support to the affected officers.
Without attributing to the attacks to the attacks, he said the French government was “facing the problem of drug trafficking” and taking measures that “will” break down “criminal networks deeply.
The Prison Union, Fo Justice, expressed its “deepest concern and anger” after “extremely serious” attacks overnight.
The Union publishes updates from the consequences of several attacks against X, including images of bullets holes in the windows of the prison in Toulon, and of burned vehicles in other prison parking lots.
He called for emergency action by the government to protect prisons.
