At least five killed after artillerymen opened a fire for tourists in Kashmir

At least five people were killed after gunners opened fire for a group of tourists visiting a popular beauty spot in India, Kashmir, authorities told the BBC.

The attack took place in Pahalgha, a picturesque town in the Himalayas, often described as “Switzerland of India”.

The region’s chief Minister Omar Abdulla said the attack was “much more bigger than everything we have seen aimed at civilians in recent years.”

According to reports, a number of people have also been injured in the attack. Lieutenant governor in the region Manoi Sinha said the army and police were located at the scene.

Abdullah condemned the attack, saying, “I’m shocked beyond faith. This attack on our visitors is an abomination.”

No group has taken responsibility for the attack. There has been a long -standing rebellion since 1989 in the Muslim majority region, although violence has declined in recent years.

The attack took place in Baysaran, a meadow of the mountain three miles (5 km) from Pahalgha.

Social media video footage seems to show that Indian troops moving toward the attack on the attack.

Police said numerous tourists were taken to hospital with firearms. The area is fenced and a search is carried out to find the perpetrators.
