6.2 magnitude earthquake of Istanbul

A series of earthquakes including 6.2-magnetic tremor Strike near Istanbul, shaking buildings in the largest city in Turkey and encourages people to escape from apartment blocks.

The largest earthquake on Wednesday struck at 12:49 local time (09:49 GMT), at a depth of 6.92 km (4.3 miles), Turkey’s emergency services said.

The 6.2-magnitudes epicenter was located along the sea of ​​Marmara, in the Silivri area about 80 km (50 miles) west of Istanbul.

Turkish officials report other smaller earthquakes as long as they are also recorded.

Istanbul residents have announced that the greater earthquake is one of the strongest they have experienced for years.

People report lamps and other furniture that crashes on the floor in their homes.

Southern Turkey was devastated by two giant earthquakes in 2023, which took more than 55,000 lives.

Istanbul is the most populated city of Turkey and home to 16 million people – fifth of the country’s residents. The city is located just 20 km north of the northern Anatolian line of the fault.
