The only surviving guest of the deadly lunch for Beef Wellington in the heart of a high Australian court says he and his wife were “very happy” to receive an invitation to gather.
Ian Wilkinson remained seriously ill after the meal, which led to the death of his wife and two other relatives.
Erin Patterson, who is accused of killing three relatives and attempting to kill another, has pleaded guilty, and her defense team says he “panicked” after involuntarily serving the poison of family members she loves.
Three people were killed in hospital in the days after eating.
The victims included the former laws of Mrs. Patterson, at 70, Don Patterson and 70 years old Gail Patterson, as well as Gail’s sister, Heather Wilkinson, 66.
G -n Wilkinson, a local pastor and Heder’s husband, survived a week of hospital treatment.
He told the packed court room that G -jja Patterson had put “all food”, which includes mashed potatoes, green beans and beef Wellington.
“Everyone had an individual service, it looked a lot like pasture,” he said. “It was a sweet case and when we cut it, there were steaks and mushrooms. It was a completely closed pastry chef.”
G -n Wilkinson also said that Gail and Heather lifted four gray plates with food and placed them on the table while d -Ja Patterson eaten from a colored plate with “orange complexion”.
“Erin picked up the strange dish and carried it to the table. She took it to her place on the table.”
He was shown a photo of the iPad dining table and he noted where each of the five people at lunch was sitting.
He said that he and Heather “ate the whole meal” while Don ate his eating with half of the beef Wellington that Gail was not over.
“He was talking about husbands who were helping their wives.”
Asked about his relationship with G -Ja Patterson, he said, “I would say our relationship is friendly, friendly. It didn’t have a lot of depth. We were more like acquaintances. We didn’t see much of another.”
“She just seemed like a normal person,” he added. “When we met things were friendly. We never had arguments or disputes. She just looked like an ordinary person.”
“Heather would see Erin more than I was talking to her more than I was, but we didn’t think the relationship was close,” he said.
The invitation was made by Heather Wilkinson in the church, a week or two earlier, recalled G -n Wilkinson.
“We were very happy that we were invited. It seems that our relationship may be improving,” he said.
“We were very happy to accept.”
The court was shown a copy of G -Jz Wilkinson’s diary, where she wrote Erin for lunch with a pencil.
Written with blue ink: “12:00” – which g -n Wilkinson said it was the time they should be taken from Don and Gail Patterson. Another word “fruit” in the diary was referring to a fruit plate they took at lunch, he said.
Patterson, dressed in a light pink striped shirt, sat without emotion when G -n -Wilkinson began his evidence.
Last week, her lawyer said she did not intend to hurt anyone and death. The result of a tragic incident – although many of the facts are not controversial and it is accepted that she has lied to the police several times.
On Monday, the jury was heard from members of a true Facebook crime group, in which D -Ja Patterson was part.
One of the witnesses, Christine Hunt, was asked about Erin Patterson’s relationship with her alienated husband Simon.
She told the court that the words “controlling” and “forced” were used by Gja Patterson.
Another member of the same group. Daniela Barkley told the court that Erin Patterson was “excited” by the purchase of a dehydrator, and the jurors were shown several images shared with the group showing mushrooms drying on the metal shelves of the appliance.
In a text message shown to the court, D -Ja Patterson said “I hid mushrooms powder in everything” – including recipes like browns so that her children cannot say they eat them.
The court also heard that in July 2023 she asked the group for advice on the cooking of Beef Wellington, the dish served by the four guests of this deadly lunch later that month.
