South African opposition policy Julius Malema says he was denied a visa for a conference in the UK on May 10.
Malema said that the United Kingdom did not have a “essential justification” for his decision, and he saw him as “an attempt to mute a disagree political perspective.”
In an expired letter to Malema Deputy, the UK Supreme Commissioner in South Africa Antony Philipson said the interior office was unable to process his visa application on time for his trip.
The Malema, the leader of the Economic Freedom Party (EFF), is a fierce critic of what he sees as “Western imperialism” and also advocates for the nationalization of lands with white owners in South Africa.
A home office spokesman told the BBC that they did not comment on individual cases.
In the X, the EFR said the Supreme Commission “has actively delayed the processing and approval” of its leader’s visa so that it cannot speak at the University of Cambridge on May 10th.
He was invited by the University of African to turn to his conference in Africa together, EFR added.
In his letter, the BBC said he was real, he said he wanted to “apologize personally” that the internal office in the UK was “unable to process the application on time because of the necessary steps needed to look at the visa applications and the ill -fated deadline.
He added that in the last week he had shown a “personal interest in the question”.
“I admit that this will be deeply disappointing, especially since the delegation has been applied in advance and some paid for priority service,” said the EFF letter to Godrich Gordee.
Philipson added that the interior office had agreed to reimburse the application fee.
Malema told X that the EFF delegation had been promised that “everything would be arranged”, but received “Sorry letter only hours before our departure”.
“It’s unacceptable and invertebrate,” he added.
The United Kingdom had a bank or public holiday on May 5.
