US President Donald Trump will receive a luxury jembo plane designed for use as a presidential plane from the royal family of Qatar.
According to reports in the US, the aircraft will not be ready for use immediately as it will have to be upgraded. The US government also plans to check the gift to spy on devices.
In an unusual agreement, the aircraft will also be donated to the Trump Presidential Library at the end of his term, media sources said.
The news of the gift comes when Trump is ready to visit Qatar this week when he embarks on a trip to the Middle East, the first major foreign trip from his second term.
The value of the gift and its processing will certainly raise legal and ethical issues among critics.
The current White House fleet includes two Boeing 747-200B aircraft, personalized for presidential use with special communication equipment and features such as a cabinet, office and conference room, according to the US Air Force. Airplanes have been used since 1990 and 1991.
Air Force Air Force usually transfer to other administrations. According to the National Archives, only the Reagan President’s Library has an Air Force Air Force and it flies seven presidents before being donated.
Qatar is said to offer to the Trump Administration a version of the Boeing 747-8, a much newer model that ABC Reports is upgraded in Flying Palace.
Boeing was signed a contract to provide the White House with more new aircraft, but Trump complained earlier this year that the company is behind the graph. His administration initially negotiated with Boeing for two specialized 747-8 aircraft during his first administration.
The aircraft manufacturer said the aircraft would not be available until 2027 or 2028.
“No, I’m not happy with Boeing. It takes a long time, you know, Air Force One, we gave this contract a long time ago,” Trump said in February.
“We can buy an airplane or get an airplane or something.”
Trump had positive diplomatic relations with Qatar during his first term, which included a message in 2019 that the country would make a large purchase of US planes.
Qatar also previously gave private planes as gifts to other countries, as a luxury aircraft given to Turkey in 2018.
