French film star Gerard Depardo was found guilty of sexual assault on two women in a movie put a test in Paris and received a 18 -month prison period.
The 76-year-old actor was accused by the two women for smearing them during a 2021 movie, Depardiu denied the allegations against him.
The Paris court found that one of the women, a set of designer named Ameli, has given consistent evidence while the actor’s accounts change over time. He was also convicted of attacking an assistant director called Sarah.
Depardieu was not in court to hear the sentence, but instead worked on a movie placed in the Azores.
The alleged attacks took place in September 2021, when Depardieu made a movie called Les Volets Verts about the aging actor who reconciled with his decreasing forces.
It was the first Depardieu process on allegations of sexual assault. Several other women have made similar allegations in the media and a supposed rape case may come to court in the future.
At the end of the trial in Paris at the end of March, prosecutor Laurent Guy said: “It is quite possible to be an excellent actor and a great father – and yet to commit a crime.
“You are not here to judge French cinema. You are here to judge Gerrard Depardieu, just as you would like any other citizen.”
The prosecutor has requested a prison for 18 months, as well as a fine of 20,000 euros (£ 16,850) in the list of sexual offenders.
Claude Vincent, which is one of the two plaintiffs of women, described Depardieu as “misogynist” and “case in sexism”.
But for the defense, Jeremy ACS demanded a justification and called the plaintiffs’ team “more fighters than lawyers.”
“They cannot bear that there must even be protection. They believe that any defense is an additional attack,” he told the court.
The first plaintiff – decorator of a set called Ameli – told the court that after a minor dispute with Depardiu, he grabbed her between his legs and held her with her hips.
The second woman – an assistant -director called Sarah – said the actor touched his ass and breasts through his clothes on three separate cases.
Depardieu denied the allegations, saying only that he could have touched women accidentally or maintain balance.
At the end of the hearing, Depardieu said: “My name is dragged through the mud of lies and insults.
“The test can be a very special experience for an actor. Seeing all this anger, the police, the press. It’s like being in a science fantastic movie, except for not science fiction. It’s life.”
He thanked the prosecution teams and the defense for giving him an idea of how the courts operated. “These lessons can be an inspiration to me one day if I can play a lawyer,” he said.
Depardieu said he had not worked as an actor for three years since his sexual accusations against him began to spread.
However, earlier this month, it was reported that he had started working in the Azores of a movie directed by his friend, actress Fanny Ardant. Depardieu plays a magician on a mysterious island, according to media reports.
Ardant appeared with Depardieu in Les Volets Verts and speaks in his protection of the process.
“The genius – in any form it takes – carries an element of the extravagant, intact, dangerous.
Another veteran French actress took Depardieu’s country on Monday. In a rare interview with French television Brigitte Bardot, 90 years old, regrets how “talented people who touch the girl’s ass are sent to the deepest dungeon.”
“Feminism is not my thing,” Bardot said. “Personally, I like men.”
