A huge Mexican Navy training ship has been damaged after collapsing at the Brooklyn Bridge in New York during a festive visit to the United States.

There were footage showing towering masts of Cuauhtémoc, cutting the bridge as the vessel passed under the famous structure on Saturday night.

Parts of the masts have been reported to have fallen on the deck, with US media reporting multiple injuries. Emergency Emergency Situations in New York (NYCEM) said it “responded to an incident” without giving further details.

The Mexican Navy confirmed that the ship was damaged, saying the incident was investigated.

The New York Fire Service has confirmed that authorities are responding to injuries, CBS, a US partner, reports.

The department stated that there were no details about how many people may have been injured or whether they were on the ship or on the bridge.

In a statement by X, Nycem said that “the situation is developing and the details are not confirmed at this point.”

Media reports say that there was over 200 crews aboard Cuauhtémoc.
