Eighteen wounded in a knife attack as the woman was arrested

Several people have suffered life -threatening injuries in the attack on a knife at the main railway station in the German city of Hamburg, police said.

The Hamburg Police reported 18 People were injured in the attack at the Central Station of the North Town around 18:00 local time (16:00 GMT) on Friday.

Employees arrested a 39-year-old German woman on the spot while performing a major surgery.

The woman remains in custody of the police and is planned to appear in court on Saturday.

In a publication by X, Hamburg police said several people who were injured had suffered life -threatening injuries.

Speaking to the press outside the station, police said they believe that the suspect had acted alone and had no “political motive”.

They are more recently believed that she may have been “in a state of mental suffering,” Florian Abbens, a police spokesman, told reporters.

Later, police added that his killing department was investigating the incident as well as the motives of suspects.

The attack happened between platforms 13 and 14 – which are available through a busy main road – while the train was on one of the platforms.

Some of the victims were treated in trains, according to reports.

German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz said the attack was “shocking” and thanked the emergency services on the spot for their “quick help”.

The German railway operator Deutsche Bahn said four platforms at the station were closed and some services would experience delays and deviations.
