The UN World Food Program (WFP) says “hungry people” have invaded a food supply warehouse in central gas.
Two people were reported to have died and several more injured in the incident, the program said, adding that it was still confirming the details.
Video footage from AFP news agency has shown that crowds are embarking on the Al-Ghafari warehouse in Deir Al Balah and pick up bags of flour and cardboard packaging while they shoot rifles. It was not clear immediately where the rifles came from.
In a statement, the WFP said that humanitarian needs in Gaza were “spiral out of control” after a nearly three -month Israeli blockade that was relieved last week.
WFP said food supplies were pre -positioned in the distribution warehouse.
The program added: “Gaza needs an immediate scaling of food assistance. This is the only way to make sure people will not starve.”
WFP said it “consistently warned of anxious and worsening conditions on the spot, and the risks imposed by limiting humanitarian assistance to hungry people desperate for the need.”
The Israeli authorities said on Wednesday that 121 UN trucks and the international community carrying humanitarian aid, including flour and food, were transferred to Gaza.
Israel began to allow a limited amount of assistance in Gaza last week. However, the UN Middle East Middle East Sigrid Kaag told the UN Security Council that it was “comparable to a rescue boat after the ship is sunk” when everyone in Gaza is at risk of hunger.
A controversial group and a group -backed group – the Humanitarian Gaza Foundation (GHF) – was also created as a private assistance system. He uses US security contractors and bypashes the UN, who said he was unsecured and unthriches.
The US and Israeli governments claim that GHF, which has set up four distribution centers in southern and central gas, prevents the Hamas help from stealing, which the armed group denies to do.
UN’s correct office said In the southern town of Rafa, the day after he started working there.
Another UN senior official told reporters on Wednesday that desperate crowds were robbing trucks of trucks to help UN.
Jonathan Whital, head of the UN Humanitarian Office for occupied Palestinian territories, also said there was no evidence that Hamas was diverting the aid coordinated through reliable humanitarian channels.
He said the real theft of assistance goods since the beginning of the war was carried out by criminal gangs, which the Israeli army “allowed to act near the point of crossing Kerem Shalom in Gaza.”
The UN claims that a jump in help like the one during the recent cessation of the fire between Israeli and Hamas would reduce the threat of robbery of hungry people and allow him to fully use his established network for distribution in the Gaza Strip.
