France will ban smoking at all outdoor areas that can be visited by children, Minister of Health and Family Catherine Vatrin.

The ban will take effect on July 1 and will include beaches, parks, public gardens, outside schools, bus stops and sports places.

“Tobacco should disappear where there are children,” Vatrin said in an interview published by Ouest-France Daily.

Vatrin added that “the freedom to smoke should end where the freedom of children begins to breathe fresh air.”

Outer areas of cafes and bar – known as Terraces – He will be released from the ban, she said.

Vatrin explained that breach of rules would impose a fine of EUR 135 (£ 113; $ 153).

She said regular police would impose a ban, but also added that he was a big believer in “self -regulation”.

Although electronic cigarettes are released, Vatrin said it works to introduce restrictions on the quantities of nicotine they contain.

According to the French Center for Drugs and Drugs Monitoring, 23.1% of the French population smokes on a daily basis – the largest percentage ever registered and a decline of over five points since 2014.

The French National Committee against Smoking says more than 75,000 smokers die each year of tobacco diseases – 13% of all deaths.

Smoking in establishments such as restaurants and nightclubs has been banned in France since 2008.

The broad measures to ban the smoking of beaches, parks and other public places were intended to begin in 2024, but the decree necessary was never accepted.

However, more than 1,500 municipalities have already voluntarily banned smoking in public places, and hundreds of beaches in France have not been launched for difficult years.

A recent report by the French Cancer Association La Ligue Contre Le Cancer shows that almost 80% of the French are in favor of a ban on smoking in public places such as Woodland, Beach, Parks and terracesS
