Approximately 250 million bees escaped from an overturned truck to Washington on Friday, provoking warnings by public authorities to avoid swarming of residents of insects.
Emergency officers were assisted by several master beekeepers after the truck, who pulled approximately 70,000 pounds (31 750 kg) active bee hives overturned on a road near the Canadian border.
“The goal is to save as many bees as possible,” he said shortly after the incident.
Authorities said the scene of the crash would remain closed, “until the rescue is over.”
“250 million bees are already loosened,” writes the County Sheriff Whatcom. “Avoid the area due to the potential of bee leakage and swarm.”
The bees worked with the police “to help re -attach the hives to the boxes,” beekeeping containers used to accommodate bees.
“The plan is to allow the bees to re-find their bee on the queen,” WCSO said, adding, “This should happen within the next 24-48 hours.”
In an update published on social media later on Friday, police thanked the “wonderful bee community”, saying that “over two dozen” had appeared to help with the rescue efforts.
“By morning, most bees had to return to their hives,” WCSO wrote on Facebook.
Police -shared footage showed a huge number of bees that rotate around the overturned truck.
While some bee guardians only strive to produce honey, many others rent their hives to farmers who need insects to pollinate their crops.
