A wax figure of French President Emmanuel Macron was stolen from a museum in Paris by environmental activists who were hiding as employees.
Greenpeace activists have entered the Grevin Museum, posing as tourists before changing their clothes, covering the statue with a blanket and taking it over an emergency, a police source told French news agency AFP.
Later, WaxWork reappeared outside the Russian Embassy, where activists denied Macron’s attitude towards French companies who continue to do business with Russia after a full invasion of Ukraine.
Macron was one of Kiev’s most vocal supporters and was a leading figure in the European efforts to ensure that fire ceased.
The footage showed activists who put the wax work in front of the embassy along with signs and posters.
No arrests have been made and the wax work of EUR 40,000 ($ 33,765; $ 45,674) has not yet been restored.
Jean-Francois Juliard, leader of Greenpeace France, told AFP that Paris “plays a double game” in support of Ukraine, while allowing French companies to continue importing gas and fertilizer from Russia.
He said Macron “embodied this double discourse” and “should be the first” among European leaders to terminate trade contracts with Russian companies.
