Ukraine Security Service (SBU) says it has been able to hit the Crimea Bridge with underwater explosives after surgery that continued “several months”.

SBU said its agents “gained the supports” on the bridge with 1100 kg of explosives, which “severely damaged” the lower levels of the supports.

However, later during the day, local authorities warned that the bridge was closed again.

Unfiable social media reports have said more explosions have occurred around the structure.

Official operating updates to share Telegram channel sharing for the bridge said: “We ask those on the bridge and in the area of ​​inspection to stay calm and follow the instructions of transport security employees.”

Russia has not yet commented on the attack on Tuesday morning, but Russian military bloggers have speculated that an underwater drone rather than an explosive has hit a protective barrier.

SBU said its Lieutenant General Vasil Malik personally controls the operation and coordinates its planning.

In a telegram publication, he quoted Malik that Ukraine hit the Crimea Bridge in 2022 and 2023 And therefore, “this tradition continued under water.”

“No illegal Russian facilities have no place in the territory of our country,” Malik said.

“Therefore, the Crimean Bridge is an absolutely legal goal, especially given that the enemy uses it as a logistical artery to deliver its troops.”

The bridge – also known as Kerh Bridge – was built by Russia after annexing the Crimean Peninsula in 2014. It was discovered by Russian President Vladimir Putin as a great fanfar in 2018.
