A pro-Jetanasia was arrested after the death of a woman using the world’s first so-called suicide pod.

D -R Florian Willet was reported was the only other person present When a 64-year-old American woman took her life Using the device in a forest in Switzerland last September.

POD inventor Philip Nitzke told BBC News that D -R Willet has died of assisted suicide in Germany.

In a separate statement, Nitzke stated that Dr. Willett had suffered a psychological trauma after his arrest and his detention in connection with the death of Switzerland.

“In the last months of his life, Dr. Florian Willet has taken more than any man,” he said.

The last resort – an assisted dying organization, founded by D -R Willet, to facilitate the use of the pod – said the arrest had left it “broken”.

The activist was held in pre -trial detention for 70 days, while police investigated whether he intentionally killed the woman – a claim for which he was not charged.

Prior to his death on May 5, Dr. Willette fell out of the window on the third floor, the group said, leaving him to need surgery and had to be “caring for a full psychiatric team”.

While assisted dying is legally protected in some circumstances in Switzerland, it is strictly regulated and the pod is confronted with opposition.

Defenders say the device – made by Sarco – provides an assisted dying option that does not rely on drugs or doctors and extends potential access.

Critics fear that the modern design of the device commits suicide and that the fact that it can be done without medical supervision is concerned.

The auxiliary dying is illegal in the UK and in most other European countries, but thousands have traveled to Switzerland over the years to end their own lives.

The BBC News contacted the Swiss prosecutor’s office for comment.
