Almost 200 -year -old condom – in Mento State – is just exposed to an exhibition of Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
It is believed to have been made of sheep Appendix and has an explicit seal representing a nun and three clergy.
The rare artifact dates back to 1830 and was purchased by the Museum at auction last year. The condom is part of an exhibition of prostitution and sexuality of the 19th century. Prints, drawings and photographs are also part of the display.
Rijksmuseum Joyce Green curator told the BBC when she and her colleague first noticed the auction condom that they “laugh”.
Mrs. Green said that “no one else has noticed him” and they are the only ones who bid for him.
After receiving the item, they inspected it with UV light and found that it had not been used.
“This is in a mint state,” said G -Jza Green.
As it is displayed, the museum is full of people – young and old – and “the answer is incredible,” she added.
D -ja Ze Zez explained that the condom was thought to have been A “luxury souvenir” from a fantastic mess in France and which is known that only two such subjects have survived to this day.
The museum said that the unusual subject “embodies both the brighter and the darker sides of sexual health, in the era, when the search for sensual pleasure is filled with fears of unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases -especially syphilis.”
The explicit imprint on this specific object shows the nun sitting in front of the three men with dressing and her legs aimed at her finger at the clergy, all of whom stand before her, raising her habits.
The condom also carries the inscription “Voilà Mon Choix”, which means “has my choice”.
The museum noted that the imprint should be considered a “parody of celibacy and the judgment of Paris from Greek mythology”, the latter being the mythological history of the Trojan prince named Paris, who had to decide which is the most righteous goddess among Aphrodite, Hera and Athens.
The Dutch Museum notes that their printing collection has about 750,000 prints, drawings and photos, but that this is the first example in the condom print collection.
“As far as we can say, we are the only museum of the arts with a printed condom,” said G -Green.
She said her institution was “open to the loan” the artifact in other museums, but noted that the condom was very delicate.
It will be shown by the end of November.
