Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has confirmed that Israel is arming clans in Gaza, which he believes are against Hamas.
His comments came after Israeli media reports cited sources of defense, saying that Netanyahu had allowed to give a weapon to a specific group in southern Gaza.
Several Israeli politicians have accused Netanyahu of endangering Israeli security.
“What’s wrong with that?” Netanyahu says in a short video that he is tweet. “It only saves Israeli’s life,” he continues, “and its publication only helps Hamas.”
What the Israeli Prime Minister refers to is reported that Israel, under his permission, was supplying a weapon to a clan in Gaza, led by a man called Yasser Abu Shabab.
The group, which some consider as a militia or a criminal gang, presented themselves as an opposition force of Hamas.
It says that his goal is to protect the trucks that bring help in Gaza, but critics say he does the opposite and breaks them down.
The revelations may have been thrown away by Benjamin Netanyahu, but they have the potential to develop in a serious new political scandal.
Israeli defense sources have confirmed earlier to local journalists that the allegations made by opposition politician Avigdor Liberman are correct.
Liberman, who heads Israel Beitino’s party, told the public television operator, Kahn, that Netanyahu unilaterally approved the transfer of weapons to the Abu Shabab clan.
“The Israeli government gives a weapon to a group of criminals and criminals identified with the Islamic State group,” Liberman said.
“To the best of my knowledge, this did not go through approval from the cabinet,” he added.
Subsequently, defense sources confirmed that Israel was arming the Abu Shabab clan with Kalashnikov rifles, including some who were seized by Hamas.
The clan works in Rafa, in an area under Israeli military control.
However, Yasser Abu Shabab publishes online to “categorically reject” that Israel supplied his group’s weapons.
“Our weapons are simple, outdated and have gone through the support of our own people,” he said.
Hamas’s sources said Abu Shabab’s activities have become a problem – with a report in an Arab newspaper that says the armed wing Hamas has begun to kill members of the clan.
Netanyahu’s service said Israel “works for Hamas’s victory through various resources, based on the recommendations of all heads of the security establishment.”
The strong criticism of the initiative comes from Jair Golan, the leader of Democrats in Knesset.
In a social media publication of X, he said: “Netanyahu is a threat to Israel’s national security. Instead of achieving a deal … by bringing the hostages home and securing security for Israeli citizens, he creates a new bombing of Tictaca in Gaza.”
