German Chancellor Friedrich Merz visited President Donald Trump in the White House on Thursday, for the first time they both met since Merz was elected May 6.

Numerous topics were mentioned in their first bilateral meeting, such as war and trade. In an exchange, when Mertz climbed on June 6 as D-Day, Trump replied that this was not a “nice day” for the chancellor.

D-Day is when tens of thousands of troops landed on beaches through Normandy in 1944, marking the beginning of the Union Campaign to release Nazi occupied northern Europe.
