A former CIA analyst, which has leaked classified documents for Israel’s plans to strike Iran, has been sentenced to 37 months in prison.
Asif William Rahman, 34 -year -old, pleaded guilty in January until two charges of deliberate detention and transmission of information on national defense under the spying Act.
Authorities say that using their high -level security permit, Rahman prints, shoots and sends top secret documents. They were later widespread in social media.
Israel made air strikes on Iran last October, aimed at military sites in several regions, in response to the rocket shed fired from Tehran weeks earlier.
“For months, this defendant has betrayed the American people and the oath, which he laid when he entered his office, throwing some of the most held secrets of our nation,” John Eisenberg, Assistant Prosecutor of National Security, said in a press release.
In October 2024, documents appeared by the Defense Agency of the Ministry of Defense were published in an Iranian telegram account.
The documents bearing a secret sign was seen between the five -eyed reconnaissance alliance, composed of the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.
It is also alleged that leaking documents contained the US valuation of Israeli plans before the strike on Iran and the movements of military assets in preparation.
One refers to Israel’s nuclear capabilities that have never been officially recognized.
Asked about leaks, former President Joe Biden replied that he was “deeply concerned.”
Israel eventually carried out these air strikes later during the month, heading to military sites in several regions in response to rockets fired by Tehran weeks before.
Rahman, who worked abroad, was arrested by the FBI in Cambodia and brought to the US territory of Guam to face charges.
