Kenyan police officers accused of blogger

Three police officers in Kenya have been charged with the murder of a 31-year-old blogger who died in police arrest earlier this month.

Albert Owang’s death has caused outrage in Kenya with protests that are holding a request for justice.

Ojwang was arrested after Kenya’s deputy police officer Eliud filed a complaint, accusing the blogger of slandering him on social media.

D -Lagat stepped aside last week waiting for the result of investigations into Ojwang’s death. He denied any misconduct.

The three police officers – Samson Kitritich, Talaam James Mukwana and Peter Kimani – were accused with three civilians.

And the six appeared in court on Monday, but have not yet pleaded.

Initially, police said Mr. Ojwang had died of self-inflicted wounds but were forced to withdraw the statement after an autopsy found it likely to have died of wounds for attack.

During a demonstration, a street seller was shot dead last week in the capital, Nairobi because of the death of G -n -Owang, provoking renewed outrage from the Kenyans who accused police of using excessive power against protesters.

Boniface Kariuki was reported to sell masks when a uniformed policeman fired a bullet at close range, critically hurting him.

Activists called for a “general suspension” of the economy on Wednesday when they intensified protests against police brutality and celebrated a year as security forces opened fire on crowds protesters against tax increases.
