The most sought after Lord of Drugs “Fito” by Ecuador, captured in Underground Bunker

Police in Ecuador have regained the most desirable fugitive in the country, Lord of Drugs Adolfo Machias Villamar.

Machias, also known as the nickname “Fito”, is the leader of Los Choneros, a powerful criminal band that has been accused of transforming Ecuador with tourist asylum into a country with one of the highest killings in the region.

Police followed him to what they described as an underground bunker under a luxury home in Manta.

A police spokesman said, no police and military shots were fired in the 10-hour joint operation.

For the first time, a large number of officers watched and surrounded the three -storey home in the Monterey neighborhood in Manta, on the shores of Ecuador.

When they stormed the building, they found a sliding door of the trap, concealed to look like part of the stone floor, from which the metal stairs led to Fito’s underground hiding place.

The “bunker” was equipped with air conditioning, bed, fan and refrigerator.

The house itself boasted a gym with a punch bag and a game room where he could play a pool and football for a table.

Fito has been reported not resistance and has been transferred with air in the port city of Guayakil, where there are several of the largest prisons of Ecuador.

The footage from his arrival in Guayakil shows him that he is wearing shorts, a T -shirt and flip flops while led by armed security officers to a parked SUV before being transferred to prison to maximum security in La Roca.

Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa praised the security forces to capture Fito and said he would be extradited to the United States, where he was accused of smuggling cocaine.

Fito escaped from the regional prison in LA in Guayakil in January 2024 with the help of at least two guards, causing the attention of global media.

This caused a wave of deadly prison riots in which the guards were taken hostage and who prompted Noboa to declare a state of emergency.

But Fito was already notorious before his escape. During his time in prison – while serving a 34 -year sentence for murder and drug trafficking – he rose to the top of the band Los Choneros after his previous leader was killed.

At the back of the bars, it coordinates the gang activities that include drug trafficking and extortion.

He was also suspected of ordering the murder of Fernando Vilavicese, who had been shot at a rally at the campaign just days before the 2023 election.

Under the guidance of Fito, Los Choneros has built connections with the powerful Sinaloa cartel in Mexico, an union that experts claim to have led to the terrible tactics often used by Mexican cartels – such as beheading and mutilation – distributed in Ecuador.

Shortly before he escaped from his prison, he also appeared in Naorkorido, a smooth music video in which his daughter glorified his father’s criminal exploits.

The video, which is partly recorded in prison, shows him that he is caressing a battle cocker and talking freely with prisoners.

The escape of the band leader in 2024 was a blow to the Noboa government. The Ecuadorian leader took over his post in November 2023 after being elected promise to combat the growing power of gangs.

On Wednesday, Noboa said that capturing the Lord of Drugs is evidence of his approach – which involves bringing laws that give him extensive powers to declare “armed internal conflict” and allows police to conduct searches without order.

“More (Lords of Drugs) will fall, we will return (control) the country,” he published at X.
