Famous Hong Kong Critic on Food Dies At 83

Chua Lam, a well -known food criticism and cultural icon in the Chinese speaking world, has died, according to her official social media account. He was 83.

Hong Kong -based, born in Singapore Lam, died at Hong Kong Hospital with his family and friends, a post on his Weibo account on Friday.

“In accordance with his wishes, so as not to disturb relatives and friends, there was no ceremony and his body was cremated,” he said in him, without specifying the cause of his death.

Known as one of Hong Kong’s “four biggest talent”, Lam was a fruitful writer and popular host of food and traveling shows.

He was the longest member of the four cultural icons, which included the lyrics of Canton James Wong Jim and the novelists Jin Yong and Ni Quang.

Chua settled in Hong Kong in the 1960s, where he produced films – including several action star Jackie Chan.

As a producer, he had to travel the world to find out about movie places, and was later invited to write a column in a local newspaper, he told The South China Morning Post in 2016.

“So, I wrote a lot about food and restaurants and in the end people saw me as a critic for food,” he said.

With the scriptures and television appearances in the 1990s and 2000s, Chua soon became one of the most highlights of Chinese cuisine.

In 2012, he served as one of the consultants of a bite from China, a documentary series presenting various dishes in China.

Chua mostly retired from the public view, as he fell and broke his pelvic bone in 2023. He was wounded until he rushed to help his wife who fell home. She died later that year.
