After his daughter fell from the fourth deck of a cruise ship of Disney with 14 decks on Sunday afternoon, a father jumped into the ocean to try to save her, according to witnesses.
Social media videos have shown that passengers applaud as the two have been safely restored by a rescue boat. According to witnesses, they were taken after stepping water for 10 minutes.
It seems that the girl fell when her father was shooting against a railing, witnesses said. The ship was broadcasting a signal over the board and the crew rushed to restore them.
“The ship was moving fast, so fast that it was crazy how fast people became tiny points in the sea, and then you lost them,” said passenger Laura Amador.
“The captain delayed the ship and turned it over, after which they unfolded a gentle ship with people to go to take them, and we saw them save Dad and daughter,” she told CBS News, the US partner of the BBC.
The capacity of 4,000 Disney Dream people returned to Fort Loderdale, Florida after sailing four days around the Bahamas.
Disney confirmed in a statement that two passengers were rescued, but suggested some details about the incident.
“The Disney Dream crew quickly saved two guests from the water,” said Cruise Line Disney spokesman. “We congratulate the members of our crew on their exceptional skills and quick action, which provided the safe return of the two guests to the ship within minutes.
Ghetto images“We watched it, you can see two small things … It was crazy, it was horrifying,” passenger Gar Franz told NBC News, describing how they witnessed the two enter the ocean and almost disappear into the horizon.
The incident took place on the last day of the cruise, and the ship returned to the port of Florida as usual.
Although it is rare for passengers to fall from cruise ships, rescue is not often successful when they do.
According to the International Cruise Line Association A 2019 Report25 people fell overboard this year from cruise ships and only nine were rescued from the water.
