Israel has agreed to the “necessary conditions” to finalize a 60-day cessation of fire in Gaza, said US President Donald Trump.
During the proposed 60-day termination of the fire, “We will work with all countries to end the war,” Trump said in a publication on social truth, without detailing what the conditions are.
“The Cathars and the Egyptians, who have worked very hard to help bring peace, will make this final proposal. I hope … Hamas will make this deal because it will not improve – it will only get worse,” Trump wrote.
Israel launched a military campaign in Gaza after the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023 against Israel, which killed about 1,200 people. At least 56 647 have been killed in Gaza ever since, according to the health ministry in Hamas.
It was not clear immediately what the conditions for the termination of fire would be and whether Hamas would accept them.
Trump’s message came before a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, scheduled for the next week, in which the US president said he would be “very hard”.
Trump said on Tuesday that he believed that Netanyahu wanted to end the hostilities in Gaza.
“He wants. I can tell you he wants. I think we’ll have a deal next week,” Trump added.
Comes shortly after Israel’s ordered Evacuations in North Gaza before increased hostilities.
In March, a previous fire termination deal collapsed when Israel began new gas strikes. The Israeli military described the action as “preventive strikes … based on Hamas’s willingness to carry out terrorist attacks, to accumulate strength and to arm himself.”
The previous transaction to end the fire between Israel and Hamas – which began on January 19 – was created to have three stages, but did not go in the first stage.
The second stage involved the establishment of a constant fire, the return of the other living hostages to Gaza in exchange for Palestinians closed in Israel, and the complete withdrawal of the Israeli forces from Gaza.
