The United States has stopped some weapons shipments to Kiev, the White House said as Russia’s war against Ukraine has intensified.

The decision was made “to put the interests of America in the first place” after a review by the US Department of Defense “Military Support and Aid to other countries,” said White House spokesman Anna Kelly on Tuesday.

The United States has sent tens of billions of dollars military assistance to Ukraine since Russia began its full -scale invasion in February 2022, which led some of the Trump administration to express fears that the US stocks are too low.

The Ukrainian government did not comment on the message. US employees did not immediately say which shipments were stopped.

Air defense and precision ammunition rockets are understood to be among the affected weapons, according to Reuters news agency.

The Ministry of Defense “continues to provide the President with stable options for continuing military aid for Ukraine,” said Elbridge Colby, US Defense Sub -tape for politics.

At the same time, Collie added, “the department strictly explores and adapts its approach to achieve this, while maintaining the readiness of US forces for the administration’s defense priorities.”

An US employee said this move is based on fears that US military stocks are falling too low, BBC News US media partner said.

“The power of the Armed Forces of the United States remains indisputable – just ask Iran,” Kelly added, citing US strikes at three Iranian nuclear sites last month.

The decision comes shortly after US President Donald Trump met with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodimir Zelenski at the NATO summit in the Netherlands last week.

On this occasion, Trump said US officials “will see if we can do some of them available” when Asked by the BBC To provide additional patriotic anti-ransions to Ukraine.

Referring to his conversation with Zelenski, Trump said, “Sometimes we had a little rough, but he couldn’t be more hostile.”

The two had a heated confrontation in the oval office in March this year. Trump then said he was stopping military assistance to Ukraine, which was intended by the previous Biden administration. Sharing intelligence with Ukraine was also stopped.

But later, both pauses were raised.

At the end of April, the United States and Ukraine signed a deal to give US access to Ukraine’s stock in exchange for military assistance.

Separately, French President Emmanuel Macron spoke with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Tuesday-for the first time in over two and a half years.

They have been talking on the phone for more than two hours, Macron’s office said, adding that the French president called on the cessation of fire in Ukraine.

Putin struck back, blaming the West for the conflict. In a statement by the Kremlin, Putin reminded Macron that Western countries “have been ignoring the interests of Russia’s security for many years and” creating an anti -Russian bridge in Ukraine. “

The suspension of US military assistance comes when Russia intensified its war against Ukraine.

Over the weekend, Russia began one of its largest air attacks against Ukraine since the beginning of the war, using more than 500 different types of weapons, including drones, ballistic and cruise missiles.

On Tuesday, three people were killed in a Ukrainian attack on a Russian factory in Izhevsk, more than 1000 km (620 miles) from the border with Ukraine.

Moscow currently controls about 20% of Ukrainian territory, including the Crimea Peninsula, annexed in 2014.
