Australia’s Prime Minister has promised to take strong action after a clear arson against Melbourne’s Synagogue.

Police are looking for a man who poured fluid into the front door of the synagogue before setting it on fire on Friday night. About 20 people who had dinner at the time were evacuated without injury.

Police are also trying to determine whether the incident is involved in an attack on a restaurant owned by Jews in the city that evening.

Over the last few months, a series of anti-Semitic attacks caused by tensions has occurred in Australia due to the war in Israel-Hama.

Protesters at the restaurant called slogans against Israeli military

The Australian government has appointed a special envoy to combat anti-Semitism and passed more stringent laws against hate crimes after a wave of high-profile attacks.

“Anti -Semitism has no place in Australia,” Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said following the attack on the Synagogue of East Melbourne.

“The persons responsible for these shocking actions must face the full force of the law and my government will provide all the necessary support for this effort,” Albanese said.

It is unclear whether the incident was linked to the attack on Miznon restaurant in the city business neighborhood, during which riots were brought through, throwing chairs and other objects while chanting “The Death of IDF (Israeli Defense Forces)”. Some of the attackers were handcuffed.

“These events are a serious escalation aimed at our community,” said Alex Rivchin, Executive Director of the Australian Jewry Executive Board.

“There were too many anti -Semitic attacks in Australia,” said Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar.

“The Australian government must do more to combat this toxic disease.”

The ongoing conflict in the Middle East has become a variable political issue in Australia.

This has led to protests in both Jewish and Muslim communities, as well as a sharp attack in Islamophobia and anti -Semitism.

The Israeli military launched a campaign in Gaza in response to the attack on October 7, 2023, which killed about 1,200 people and 251 others were hostage.

Since then, at least 57 268 people have been killed in Gaza, according to the health ministry in the territory.
