The United States has deported eight people in southern Sudan after a legal battle that saw them diverted to Djibouti for several weeks.
Men – convicted of crimes, including murder, sexual assault and robbery – either graduated or were close to the end of their sentences in prison.
Only one of the eight is from South Sudan. The rest are citizens of Myanmar, Cuba, Vietnam, Laos and Mexico. US officials said most of their home countries have refused to accept them.
The Trump administration is working to expand its deportations to third countries.
She has deported the people in Salvador and Costa RicaS Rwanda confirmed the discussions, and Benin, Angola, Equatorial Guinea, Equatorial Guinea, Equatorial and Moldova are given in media reports as potential countries for the recipient.
A photo provided by the CBS News Ministry of Homeland Security, the BBC American partner, showed men on the plane, hands and feet.
The officials did not say whether the government of South Sudan detained them or what their fate would be. The country remains unstable and is on the verge of the Civil War, with the US State Department warning the trip due to “crime, abduction and armed conflict”.
Eight were initially thrown out of the United States in May, but their plane was diverted to Djibouti after US District Judge Brian Murphy in Massachusetts blocks deportationS He ruled that migrants who have been deported to third countries should be notified and a chance to talk to a asylum officer.
But last week, the Supreme Court gave up the Trump administration and overturned Judge Murphy’s decision. On Thursday, the Supreme Court confirmed that the judge could no longer require proper hearing, allowing deportations to continue.
At the time, the lawyers asked for another judge to intervene, but in the end he ruled that only Judge Murphy had a jurisdiction. At the time, Judge Murphy said he had no authority to suspend the removal because of the decision of the Supreme Court of the Supreme Court.
Trisha McLaflin of the Ministry of Interior Security called the deportation of South Sudan Victory over “activist judges”.
Earlier this year, Secretary of State Marco Rubio canceled all visas for passport holders in South Sudan, citing the country’s past refusal to accept deported citizens.
