The body of former Nigeria President Muhammadu Bukhari, who died at 82 years old at a London clinic on Sunday, must be flying at home later in order to be buried in his hometown in Kacina.

Cacina Governor Dikko Radda, who returned to Nigeria on Monday morning after being with the Bukhary family in London, said Bukhari would be buried in the city of Daura, 50 miles (80 km) from the town of Kacina on Tuesday.

Nigeria Vice President Kashim Shetima is in London and will accompany Bukhari’s remains back to Nigeria.

“Based on my discussions with family and loved ones who have the corpse, preparation is being held to return the body to Nigeria,” Radda said.

“What I have collected so far is that the corpse will arrive tomorrow 12:00 (Tuesday) and the funeral will happen by 14:00,” he added.

He said the funeral, initially expected on Monday, was delayed to allow more people to attend.

The house of Bukhari in Daura is already filled with grieving as friends, family and well -wishers expect his corpse.

The Vice President also confirmed that Daura was the last place to vacation in a social media publication after arriving in London on Monday morning.

He said Bukhari died after a short illness without revealing further details, but the former president has suffered from poor health for many years.

Although he is a former president, there will be no state funeral. In accordance with Islamic teachings, Bukhari will be buried as quickly as possible at a simple ceremony, Islamic priest Abdullahi Garangamawa told the BBC.

The stands continue to be poured on the late army general to lead Nigeria twice – the first as a military leader and a president, after becoming the first opposition leader to defeat acting in 2015.

Former President Gudluk Jonathan, defeated by Bukhari in 2015, describes the late leader as a person who “was selfless in his commitment to his duty and serves the country with a character and a deep sense of patriotism.”

The former military ruler, General Ibrahim Babangida, who removed Bukhari in a 1985 coup, also boasted the Octogenaria.

“He is a man who even retires remains a moral compass for many and an example of modesty in public life,” Babangida noted.

President Bola Ahmed Tinuu, who is expected to attend the funeral prayer in Daura, announced a seven -day national mourning period in honor of his predecessor.

In an official statement of condolence, published on Sunday night, Tinubu said that the nation would give its final respect to the former leader with dignity and honor, beginning with the decrease of all national flags to the half-mitch across the country from Sunday.
