At least two people were killed and another 27 were injured after a Russian air strike at a shopping center and market in the town of Dobropilia in the area of Ukraine in East Donetsk, officials said.
More than 50 stores, 300 apartments and eight cars were damaged during the attack on Wednesday night, said regional governor Vadom Filashkin on Telegram.
In his night address, President Volodimir Zelenski described the strike as “just terrifying” and stated that “there is no” military logic “towards him. Russia has not commented.
It comes as the US Special Messenger in Ukraine Keith Kellog is in Kiev on a weekly trip to discuss the US-Ukrain cooperation with Zelenski.
“The Russians are again deliberately directed to an area with many people – a shopping center in the middle of the city,” writes Governor Filashkin in Telegram on Wednesday.
“This time with an air bomb of 500 kg (1100 kilograms).”
Filashkin said the bomb was removed at 17:20 local time (14:20 GMT) when the area was busy shopping.
Situated 20 km (12 miles) from the front line and northeast of the city of Pokrovsk – the focal point of Russia’s slow progress through the Donetsk region – Dobropillia has been the subject of other attacks since Russia launched its full -scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
In March, 11 people were killed in the city, including five children.
Meanwhile, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobianin said that the Russian Defense Ministry had removed three drones flying to the capital in the early hours of Thursday morning.
He said the emergency service was working in place of the remains, but he did not mention victims. Ukraine did not comment on strikes.
This comes after us President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that Ukraine should not head to Moscow with strokesAfter the Financial Times announced that Trump had promoted Ukraine to escalate attacks on Russia on July 4.
Russia has escalated its drones and missile strikes in Ukraine in recent weeks, killing over 230 civilians in June, according to the United Nations organization – the largest number killed in a month during the three years of war.
Trump is becoming increasingly striking that his efforts to end the war are not amazed or a significant breakthrough.
After meeting with NATO chief Mark Ruth in Washington on Monday, Trump said he was “disappointed” by Vladimir Putin and the fact that his “very nice phone calls” with the Russian president were often followed by air strikes in Ukraine.
“Then it happened three or four times, you say: the conversation means nothing,” Trump said.
He warned that he would impose heavy sanctions on Moscow if the peace transaction was not achieved within 50 days.
The US president has also announced that the US will send Kiev’s “best weapons” through NATO countries to ensure that “Ukraine can do what he wants to do.”
