At least 19 dead after the Air Force plane crashed to school

At least 19 people were killed and more than 100 were injured after a Bangladeshi Air Force training plane crashed into the school campus in the capital Dhaka.

A college teacher Rezal Islam told BBC Bangla that he saw that the airplane “directly” had hit the building.

Another teacher, Masud Tarik, told Reuters that he had heard an explosion: “When I looked back, I saw only fire and smoke … There were many guardians and children here.”

A student said he saw that the plane had hit the building “right in front of my eyes”.

The military statement said: “The F-7 BGI training aircraft of the Bangladesh Air Force crashed in Utara. The aircraft took off at 13:06 (0706 GMT).”

The country’s fire service said on social media that there were nine units on the site, along with six ambulances.

Mohammed Yunus, the leader of Bangladesh’s temporary government, said that “necessary measures” would be taken to investigate the cause of the incident and “provide all kinds of assistance”.

“This is a moment of deep sorrow for the nation. I wish the injured speedy recovery and instruct all the authorities, including the respective hospitals, to deal with the situation of utmost importance,” he said in a publication for X.
