SEOUL (Reuters) – At least 62 people were killed when an airliner skidded off the runway and crashed into a fireball at South Korea’s Mueang International Airport on Sunday, the country’s fire agency said.

Two people were rescued, the agency said, and an official told Reuters they were crew members.

Jeju Air flight 7C2216 from Thailand’s capital Bangkok carrying 175 passengers and six crew members landed at the country’s southern airport shortly after 9 a.m. (0000 GMT), South Korea’s Ministry of Transport said.

The ministry did not confirm the death toll.

At least 58 bodies have been recovered but the number is not final, another fire official told Reuters.

Two people have been found alive and rescue operations are underway, said a Moon fire official. Yonhap news agency reported that three people survived.

An airport official told Reuters shortly after the crash that authorities were working to rescue people in the tail section.

Video shared by local media shows the twin-engine plane skidding across the runway without any landing gear before crashing into a wall in flames and an explosion of debris. Other photos show parts of the plane engulfed in smoke and flames.

The passengers included two Thai citizens and the rest were South Koreans, according to the Ministry of Transport.

The plane, a Boeing (NYSE: ) 737-800 jet operated by Jeju Air, is investigating the details of the crash, including the damage and cause, an airline spokesman said.

Boeing and the US Federal Aviation Administration did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

All domestic and international flights at Muan Airport have been canceled, Yonhap reported.
