Iranian diplomats met with their colleagues from the United Kingdom, Germany and France for nuclear negotiations, for the first time after Israel launched attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities in June.
The strikes caused a 12-day war that also saw US bombing a number of Iran nuclear sites, which led to the US and Iran’s nuclear conversations to a sharp end.
The three European powers that attended the conversations known as E3, have threatened to restore sanctions against Iran if no progress is made in negotiating a new nuclear deal by the end of August.
Iran’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Kazem Garibabadi said they were conducting a “serious, frank and detailed” discussion and agreed to continue consulting.
Gharibabadi said earlier this week that causing sanctions would be “completely illegal”.
Early sanctions against Iran’s nuclear program were canceled as a result of the Iran nuclear deal in 2015, which was agreed with the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China, Russia and Germany.
Years of tension on Iran’s alleged effort for the development of nuclear weapons – something that Tehran has always denied.
Under the terms of the transaction, Iran agreed to restrict its nuclear activities and to authorize international inspectors.
The United States withdrew from the 2018 deal during President Donald Trump’s first term, with the leader saying he did too little to prevent Iran from creating a way to a nuclear bomb. With its withdrawal, all US sanctions were re -imposed in Iran.
Iran revenge, increasingly violating restrictions.
The United Kingdom, Germany and France have threatened to restore heavy sanctions against Iran, unless they agree to restrict their nuclear program, with a final period set for October.
As the negotiations began on Friday, the CEO of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said Iran had indicated that he would be ready to restart the conversations at a technical level with regard to his nuclear program.
Rafael Grossi also noted that Iran should be transparent about his facilities and activities.
“We have to listen to Iran regarding what they think should be the precautions that need to be taken,” he added.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Bagai told Iranian state media that E3 countries should use the meeting to “compensate for their previous non -constructive policies.”
He also accused the three countries to justify the “violation of the law and aggression” by supporting the US Israeli attacks in June, adding that Iran would officially protest their position during current negotiations.
In June, Iran’s parliament stopped collaboration with the UN nuclear guard after tensions with Israel and the United States reached the head.
He came after Israel began strikes in Iran on June 13, to which Tehran reacted with rocket and drones.
The United States, one of Israel’s strongest allies, then gave Iran a two-week window to resume diplomatic relations.
During this time, on June 20, diplomats from Germany, France and the United Kingdom met with Iran for conversations in Geneva, looking for de -escalation.
At that time, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi said his country was “prepared” to meet with E3 representatives again.
But after the conversations in Geneva, Washington began its own attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities. President Trump said the operation, known as Midnight Hammer Operation, “deleted” Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
The US intelligence assessment, published in June, suggested that US strikes were not destroying the country’s nuclear program and probably returned it only for months.
